TSGT WALTER C. FULDA
POST
“CRIER”
|
|
August 2009
|
From The President
|
|
I want to thank everyone for a wonderful 4th of July celebration. I think this
was the best one I have attended at the Post. Thank you to Crystal and Heather
for their time doing the face painting. There were some good looking kids
walking around. James and Randall were outside with the gold fish and Jackie
III was in the dunk tank when the Commander and Betty took a break. The Jail
run by Ted and Beth was a big success. I didn't know we had so many criminals
and everyone enjoyed seeing their friends locked up. If I missed someone, I
apologize.
This month is the VFW Hospital visit on August 9th. We will leave the post at
1200. The veterans always feel better after our visits and you will feel good
also.
I want everyone to know that if we have any cats out back, please leave them
alone. They are wild cats and will bite.
If you can work breakfast, we need help on the third week. We only have two
people on that team and one is a stand-by. Please sign up if you can work this
Saturday.
Hugs to all,
Anna Martin

As your new president I want to thank you all for your support. Our last
meeting went great. The awards for those that were not at the grand were given
out. Congratulations and I hope you keep up the good work.
We had a hospital visit last month and only six of the members showed up. Our
next hospital visit will be on August 9th, please show up in your clown attire
to get your clown badges for the year.
We are planning on a cleanup day to clean the cootie shack. That will be some
time in August.
The Fifth Supreme was held at our post. As always the cootie's had a blast.
We do have wings this month on the last Wednesday. All volunteers will be
needed.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday the 11th. Joint meeting will start at the
7:30 pm and the lady's meeting will be right after.
The Grand will be in Beaufort on Oct. 16th 17th and 18th. If you need any
registration papers they are at the bar.
The next Fifth Supreme will be held in Spring Lake North Carolina the first
weekend in December. Thank you again for all of your support.
Your President,
Shelia Johnson

Our Hospital Visit is on the 9th of August. We will be leaving promptly at
noon from the VFW. Please try to give up two hours of your time for our
Veterans. We are here for them and we all know Harold Sedevy, he is a member
of our VFW Post and he just loves it when we go visit him, so let's try to make
his Sunday even if it's just for a few short minutes. Sisters, try to get your
Veteran to also make a Hospital Visit, after all, he may need visitors some day
and we know it would be so lonely without company, even if it is once in
awhile. Hope to see everyone at Ladson VFW on 9th August 2009 ready to go to
the VA for our monthly visit.
Sincerely,
Carrie A. Conyers
Hospital Chairman

S.C. Physically Handicapped Chapter
Here it is another month and I still have only received one Handicap
Application. I have been notified that if we don't get installed by August, we
will not be able to have a South Carolina Handicap Chapter #3433. Our Dept.
Matron Advisor has been questioned continuously about Ladson VFW Auxiliary and
whether we are still planning on having a Handicap Chapter. Please turn in
your applications as soon as possible and we can schedule a meeting in August
to be installed and we will need to choose Officers that date so be thinking
about what office you would like to hold. We need at least 10 members to get
our Chapter started, so if you know of anyone who is interested, please feel
free to contact me at 843-851-1632 so I can see they get an application. Let's
get this started.
Sincerely,
Carrie A. Conyers
Matron Advisor
On the House
This year's July 4th celebration was a huge success and bigger than ever.
Thanks to all the volunteers who worked that day to make it a memorable and
enjoyable time. If you missed spending time with us, put it on your calendar
for next year when we hope to make it even bigger and better.
As many of you may have noticed it is pretty hot in the ballroom this summer.
Unfortunately our outside air conditioning unit has failed and needs to be
replaced. We are currently reviewing estimates to replace the unit and hope
to have it up and running as soon as possible. We made a pretty good dent
raising the funds to replace the unit during our July 4th celebration and are
working on a few more fund raisers to pay for the unit.
On July 15th we opened up the ballroom bar for our wing nights. Our hope is
that by opening up this bar we will keep the canteen a little quieter and
fulfill a wish expressed by many members to keep this room closed off for
members only. We are also experimenting with table placement in the ballroom
by intermixing small and large tables on both ends of the room and not allowing
the small tables to be pushed together to form larger tables. By doing this,
we hope to offer everyone the seating they desire.
To end this month's letter please meet Dave Griesemer. You may know Dave as
"Satchmo" who opens our Karaoke nights but did you know that he also, for the
last six years, has volunteered his time to do the post taxes, and Ladies
Auxiliary taxes? Dave spent 23 years in the Navy serving on submarines and
retired as a Chief. Dave has been a post member for over seven years and when
he's not working as a CPA in Moncks Corner, performing as Satchmo or working on
the post taxes, he enjoys spending time with his wife Margaret, watching
baseball on TV or just plain relaxing. Thanks Dave, its volunteers like you
who help keep the post going.

The professor of economics…
at school had a strict policy that the hourly examinations were to be completed
at the bell and anyone who kept writing on their exam after the bell would take
a zero on the exam.
Well, one guy kept writing on his exam for a while after the bell and then
confidently strode up to turn it in. The professor looked at him and said,
"Don't bother to hand that paper in... you get a zero for continuing after the
bell."
The guy looked at him and said, "Professor, do you know who I am!"
The professor replied, "No, and I don't care if your dad is president of the
United States, you get a zero on this exam"
The guy, with a enraged look on his face, shouted, "You mean you have no idea
who I am?"
The professor responded, "No, I've no idea who you think you are."
With that, the guy said "Good!" plunged his exam into the middle of the stack
of other student's exams, and did a hasty retreat from the examination room!

Modern breathalyzers work on a clever electrochemical principle. The subject's
breath is passed over a platinum electrode, which causes the alcohol to bind
with oxygen, forming acetic acid. In the process it loses two electrons, a
process that sets up a current in a wire connected to the electrode. The higher
the concentration of alcohol in the breath, the greater the electrical current,
which can be read by a simple meter to indicate intoxication levels.
