We are going to have a volunteers meeting on June 6th at 1300.  We are in need of volunteers for wing night and breakfast.  Hope to see everyone at the meeting.  If we do not get enough volunteers, we may have to cancel some of our programs.

Hope to see you at the Post.

From our Hospital Chairman

Our next Hospital Visit is June 7. We need more Veterans and more Auxiliary members to please attend our hospital visits.  Our hospitalized Veterans need us to show them and tell them we are always there for them and that they are never, ever forgotten.  We will leave the VFW promptly at noon.  Believe me; you will feel so much better after visiting with our Veterans.  Hope to see you there!!!!!

On the House

Our new year is about to begin and your new House Committee has been elected. This year's committee is Mike O'Connell, Jim McClendon, Sarge Mizzell, Bill Fellner, Jerry Belding, Bill Ammeter, Ted Tufts, Jackie Brooks and Commander Jackie Martin.

Our last 4th Tuesday meatloaf dinner went very well and all attending had a very good meal. Thanks to Bill Fellner for volunteering his time and talents to prepare a great meal. For June 23rd Bill is working on a fish fry which sounds like a meal not to miss. And speaking of Tuesday meals, our 5th Tuesday meal is shaping up to be a great one. Lula and Willie Campbell are the chief cooks and the menu is Soul food consisting of Pork Chops, Collard Greens, Cabbage, Macaroni and Cheese, Corn bread and Corn on the cob. **** Boy what a meal!! ****

I would like to thank each and every member and nonmember who volunteered to assist or work any function at the post this past year. You are too numerous to name individually but you know who you are and be assured many others know who you are as well. Thank you for all you have done this past year, your work is not unnoticed.

On June 6th at 1:00 in the ballroom we will be holding a Volunteer meeting to put together the coming year's kitchen teams. If you are currently on a team, would like to work on a team or know of a group that would like to form a new team, please come to the meeting and help us out.

The committee is actively working on the post Independence Day celebration. If you are able to volunteer to help with the festivities please contact one of our event planners, Mike O'Connell or Jackie Brooks who will gladly accept help.

This Month in Military History

Behavior

Congratulations Brittani Smith on your graduation from The College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, a scholarly study of the mind and behavior.

Brittani's mom Pam who serves us at the Post canteen tells me that Brittani is hoping to attend graduate school. There are various fields of psychology, which ever field of psychology Brittani does pursue we wish her success.

Eating and drinking is a psychological behavior I had to learn more about for my own health.

My blood pressure was going through the roof. I was taking my meds and it wasn't having any affect. The doctor told me I had to change my life style. What?

The doctor told me to sign up for the diet class. I asked the receptionist at the Goose Creek VA clinic to sign me up. I learned it's called the MOVE program, Motivating Overweight Veterans Everywhere. Catchy phrase.

My problem was my eating habits. Fast foods with high calorie, sugar, and salt content. I started paying attention to the nutrition label. 1,800 calories a day is max for me and staying out of the fast food joints. My blood pressure is now back to normal.

* * * * *

After the college boy delivered the pizza to a trailer house, the man asked, "What is the usual tip?"

"Well," replied the youth, "this is my first trip here, but the other guys say if I get a quarter out of you, I'll be doing great."

"Is that so? Well, just to show them how wrong they are, here's five dollars."

"Thanks," replied the youth, "I'll put this in my school fund."

"What are you studying?" asked the man.

The lad smiled and said: "Applied psychology."
