still need to push our 50/50 drawing. Anyone that can spare an evening to help
out would be greatly appreciated.
The Grand in Beaufort went extremely well. Thanks to all who helped.
We will be having the next Grand in Ladson January 29th – 31st, 2010. If anyone
has any ideas regarding food or a theme please let us know.
Thanks to all who came out on Halloween to help with breakfast.
November 8th is the Veterans Day Parade. We will be participating in the float;
if anyone that wishes to ride or walk in the parade please check with the post

A Veteran's day recipe from Fat into the fire:
Merchant Marine Soup A complete meal soup! Quick and easy!
4 carrots, sliced thin
2 celery stalks, diced
1 med. Size onion, diced
2 cups diced cooked chicken (or lean ham slices)
2 cans drained navy beans
1 envelope onion soup mix
1 bay leaf
Salt and pepper to taste
8 cups of water
Bring all to a boil except beans and meat. Upon boiling point, reduce heat,
add beans and meat.
Simmer 20 minutes, serve.
Note: Can make this in a crock pot; pack it up and go visit a Veteran for lunch!
Note II: To make this a vegetarian soup – omit meat and add some green beans,
soy beans, or even some soy meatballs or soy sausage!

I tried calling our dietitian, Tina to get her opinion on the Merchant Marine
soup, this is what I got:
"Hi! Tina's answering machine is broken. This is her refrigerator. Please speak
very slowly and I'll stick your message to myself with a magnet."
Enjoy the soup.
I'll see you there for Thanksgiving dinner.
